'BA threatens to favour Madrid'

This was the headline in the Financial Times, reporting Willie Walsh, CEO of British Airways, saying that BA will expand at Madrid airport after it merges with Iberia, now that the UK government has scrapped plans for a third runway at Heathrow.

The consequences: environmental benefits from limiting air travel to and from the UK, BA to switch transit passenger flying the Atlantic from Heathrow to Madrid, still plenty of capacity for business travellers at Heathrow, while regional airports should meet the leisure travel needs of UK residents.  No problems.
