Audit of models

Vanessa Kovacevic, an economist formerly of the Highways Agency, has an interesting Viewpoint piece in Local Transport Today of 3 September. She draws attention to the risk of coding errors in transport models which can make a big difference to a road scheme's benefit:cost ratio. Vanessa argues for detailed auditing of such models, which is not what usually happens.

This comment from an experienced professional adds to my concerns about the validity of transports models and appraisals based on their outputs.  It seems to me that far too little effort goes in to validating these increasingly complex models.
