Technology companies in central London

An article in the Financial Times notes that technology companies are renting office space in central London. For instance, Google has taken 155,000 square feet in Covent Garden.  In times past, a firm of this size would have located in a business park in the Thames Valley.  But now the city centre is where the action is, and not just for start-ups seeking space in the low rent fringe bordering the central business district.

Central London is attractive for recruiting staff for a European HQ. Talent is available from many countries, as London becomes more international in character.

This growth of population and centrally-located employment contributes to the declining share of car travel and the rise in public transport use - see my paper
