Transport Committee report: major road network

The House of Commons Transport Committee has issued a report on ‘The major road network.’  I had submitted a memorandum when the inquiry was announced, and was invited to give oral evidence. My memorandum is at Documents.

The report records my observation that the average distance travelled by car has stabilised in recent years, and that traffic growth has been due to population growth and increased use of vans.  The Committee is critical of the Department for Transport for not being able to disaggregate its traffic forecasts by vehicle type and population group.  The Department is urged to improve its forecasts.

This is a fairly low key report, unlikely to make waves.
